I love the Mazda 6…

The Mazda 6 MPS is powered by a 280hp engine derived from the current 2.3-litre all-alloy MZR four-cylinder engine. Predictably, the extra power is mainly contributed by a turbocharger with intercooler. It pumps out the maximum power at 6500rpm and maximum torque of 265lbft at 3500rpm, more torquey than the recently-killed RX-7. We don’t know if it retains the MZR’s continuous variable-valve timing, as the strong torque curve of turbocharged engine usually saves the need for VVT. However, Mazda has introduced their first-ever direct-injection system to this engine, thus ensure better fuel efficiency and cleaner emission to satisfy the strict Euro IV and America’s ULEV standards.
To handle the strong engine, of course, the Mazda 6 can no longer rely on the front wheels for traction. Therefore it employs a sophisticated 4-wheel-drive system with electronically controlled torque split and a Torsen rear LSD. To take advantage of the increased power, it also employs a new 6-speed manual gearbox.
Other changes include 18-inch wheels, sportier suspension setup, new seats and interior trimming. The exterior was styled by Mazda’s studio in Germany.
Although Mazda did not say, we can predict the 6 MPS will be the faster car of the company, even faster than the rotary engine RX-8, thanks to its advantage in torque.
