Mercedes says its new 2007 CL-Class is the quietest car in the luxury segment. As early as the conceptual phase, Mercedes engineers set out to make sure the bodyshell would generate as little wind noise as possible. With that in mind, they designed the airflow-efficient A-pillars, developed a more rigid bodyshell with reinforced outer surfaces. They also came up with a new sealing concept for the doors, which provides more isolation than the previous model. This exemplary noise insulation is also helped by the side windows, which have a thickness of six millimeters — about a quarter of an inch.
