Help-my gas gage quit

My gas gage went to 3/4ths after a fill up..then went to empty w/light on. I have been told it could be the gage, the send unit or a fuse. No one at Mercedes will tell me which fuse to check and where it is located. I would like to check this out before I have to spend the bucks on the others. Any ideas on which fuse and where it is located?
